‘Celebration’ – a New Album of Christian Science Music

Happy Holidays! Is it almost Christmas already?! For those of you who’ve been to your Christian Science Reading Room recently, perhaps you have seen the new two-disc compilation CD released by the Christian Science Publishing Society: it’s called Celebration and features 26 arrangements of new hymns that will be included in the upcoming hymnal supplement. The producers organized about a dozen musicians/groups to record for this project, and we are delighted to be one of them! You can find our songs on the second disc, and one of them you may recognize as the tune the tune Josephine that we sang at the 2012 Annual Meeting. It was our arrangement of a beautiful setting written by Raymond Burkhart to Mary Baker Eddy’s poem Feed My Sheep. Our other...

Our New Solo “Spirit’s Own” at TMC

Last weekend found us doing one of our favorite activities: singing the solo at The Mother Church in Boston. Whereas for past TMC solos we did songs that we’d already written, this time we composed a brand new song specifically for that service! You can listen to it until Saturday – just two more days! – at the online church service page. The solo starts at 26 minutes. Have a listen! The music itself had actually been composed already, but in solo piano form for Jay’s recent album Piano on 24th. We chose the track Selkie Crossroads and Tessa listened to it while studying the Bible Lesson for last week, then wrote lyrics to it and named the new song Spirit’s Own. Several people have kindly asked us about sheet music availability for...

Singing ‘Let There Be Light’ at TMC on 6/14

This Sunday will find us soloing in Boston at The First Church of Christ, Scientist! We will sing our setting to Mary Baker’s Eddy’s poem called Love (and often referred to by its first line “Brood O’er Us”). The piano accompaniment provides a lush landscape for the lyrical and expressive melody, which rolls gently over the countryside and through Ms. Eddy’s five rich verses of prose. Let There Be Light was published last year on Watchfire Music (audio and sheet music), and although we may modify our composition for this performance, it’ll mostly be the same 🙂 We invite you to tune in to The Mother Church’s online church service at 10am EST this Sunday, June 14, to...

Another Wonderful Sunday at TMC

We are so grateful every single time we perform at The Mother Church! It is such a wonderful and uplifting place to attend services and perform music. You can listen below to our cell phone recording of the solo from the evening service that day, which was held in the original edifice. If you have enough bass in your speakers you should be able to hear Bryan Ashley come in with us on the organ at 2:20. THANK YOU to all of you who tuned in already and sent us so many wonderful comments!

Performing a New Solo at TMC Next Week!

Hello Wonderful People, In one week from today, March 1st, we will be performing the solo at The Mother Church in Boston. It’s always an exciting trip, but this time we’re especially pleased to be singing a new composition: to complement the subject of the Lesson Sermon, Christ Jesus, we’ll be sharing our new setting to Mary Baker Eddy’s poem, Christmas Morn. It has a celebratory melody over a rich piano texture, and as always when writing music for Mary Baker Eddy poems we attempted to shed a fresh perspective on the meaning of the lyrics. In this case, we emphasize the last three lines, which begin with what became the title: Fill Us Today. As is the case every week, The Mother Church will broadcast the church service live online and...

Father of Lights Performed in Boston

As we wrote earlier, Jay recently completed an organ scholarship and has been working on making organ versions of our solos. We published the organ version of Father of Lights last September, and are happy to report that it was performed this morning at The Mother Church in Boston! You can hear it by listening to the online church service from today until January 10th, 2015. The solo starts at 26:12 and is performed by Rebecca Minor and Carol Weitner. Father of Lights Words by Tessa E.B. Frost Music by Jay A.H.
