Peace Like a River

1
I will extend peace, peace like a river
To lift you up and carry you home
Just like a mother comforts her children
Just so will I with you

The man he was dirty, he was empty
Unseen, unwanted and torn
A battle raged, deep within him
A war of wills with a shadow called “sin”

It felt like he’d wandered his whole life
Homeless among homes, alive among tombs
But it there, when there was no light
He heard a voice inside, like an angel guide:

“You, My most precious gift
You, who My image bear
You, not what you think you see
You – you are the best of Me”

This whisper pursued him, convinced that it knew him
Innocent and free, as he was made to be
Day by day it grew louder
And with it came peace, peace like a river

The man, he was gentled, redeemed
Like the child he’d forgotten inside
Steady and sure, this touch of a Mother
God knew him, a child divine

“You, My most precious gift
You, who My image bear
You, not what you think you see
You – you are the best of Me”

I will extend peace, peace like a river
To lift you up, and carry you home
Just like a mother comforts her children
Just so will I with you
